JOB SUMMARY:

The Child Care Assistant Teacher provides quality childcare services for the children of hospital employees in a safe, nurturing and developmentally appropriate environment. This position supports the Lead Teacher in daily classroom activities and may occasionally assume responsibility for the classroom in their absence.

The Child Care Assistant Teacher works with children ranging in age from 0 to 5 years and plays an important role in fostering social, emotional and cognitive development through structured activities and play.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Assisting the Lead Teacher with daily classroom routines and activities
  • Providing attentive and compassionate care for children ages 0–5 years
  • Helping to maintain a clean, safe and engaging classroom environment
  • Supporting age-appropriate learning and development through play and instruction
  • Filling in for the Lead Teacher as needed to ensure continuity of care
  • Communicating effectively with children, parents and staff
  • Promoting a positive and inclusive atmosphere in alignment with the values of Wallowa County Health Care District

Child Care Assistant Teacher - Job Description

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working in a certified Child Care Center or Certified Family Child Care Home preferred
  • Must be eligible for enrollment in the Oregon Registry and Central Background
  • Must obtain Child CPR and First Aid certification within 30 days of employment
  • Current Food Handler’s Certification required within 30 days of employment 
  • Completion of the following Office of Child Care-approved trainings required within 30 days of employment:
    • Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect (RRCAN)
    • Safe Sleep Training Introduction to Child Care Health and Safety (ICCHS)
    • Prevention is Better than Treatment
  • Ability to meet the physical and functional requirements outlined in the job description
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check, drug screen and reference checks
