The Diet Aide plays a vital role in supporting the mission of Wallowa County Health Care District to provide premier healthcare by ensuring high-quality food service to patients and staff. As a representative of the patient experience, this position requires professionalism, attention to detail and a strong commitment to excellent customer service.
The Diet Aide is responsible for preparing and serving fruits, salads, desserts, beverages, snacks and nourishments for patients at all meals and snack times, following the current posted menu. Knowledge of therapeutic diets is essential to ensure accurate meal selection as ordered by the physician. This role also supports food preparation for in-house catered events and assists the cook in assembling patient meal trays.
Responsibilities Include:

Preparing and serving patient meals and snacks, including therapeutic diet items

Ensuring accuracy in following dietary orders and menu selections
- Assisting with food and beverage preparation for hospital events
- Supporting the cook in assembling meal trays
- Maintaining a clean, organized and sanitary food service area
- Providing courteous and respectful service to patients, visitors and staff
- Adhering to all safety, infection control and confidentiality standards.

Diet Aide - Job Description
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current Food Handler’s Card required or must be obtained within 30 days of hire
- Ability to read, write, and perform basic arithmetic required for food preparation and portioning

Understanding of standard units of measurement used in food service and purchasing
- Ability to follow and implement modified diet plans, as well as contribute to the development of related policies and procedures
- Basic computer skills, including comfort with checking and responding to email communications
- Demonstrated ability to provide compassionate, patient-centered care across diverse populations
- Ability to meet the physical and functional requirements outlined in the job description
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Must successfully pass a criminal background check and reference checks
