JOB SUMMARY:

The Clinic Courier is responsible for the safe and timely transportation of medical items between the hospital, associated clinics, external healthcare facilities and, when needed, patient residences. Transported items may include patient specimens, medical supplies, equipment, documents and pharmacy deliveries. This position plays a critical role in supporting patient care operations by ensuring reliable and efficient courier services.

The Clinic Courier is expected to manage and coordinate daily pickup and delivery schedules, maintain accurate records and adhere to all safety and confidentiality protocols. This position is subject to an initial and ongoing review of driving records to ensure compliance with hospital and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities Include: 

  • Transporting medical items such as specimens, supplies, documents and medications between healthcare facilities and patient homes
  • Coordinating daily pick-up and delivery routes to ensure timely and efficient service
  • Maintaining the security and confidentiality of all transported materials
  • Ensuring compliance with infection control, safety and regulatory requirements
  • Maintaining delivery logs, receipts and documentation as required
  • Performing routine vehicle inspections and reporting any maintenance needs
  • Providing courteous and professional service while interacting with staff, patients and the public 
  • Complying with hospital driving policies and maintaining a valid driver’s license and clean driving record

Clinic Courier - Job Description

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid and unrestricted driver’s license required
  • Acceptable driving record with no moving violations within the past 12 months and no more than two moving violations within the past 36 months
  • Strong customer service skills with a professional and courteous demeanor
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for effective interaction with staff, patients and the public
  • Ability to manage time efficiently and follow scheduled delivery routes
  • Must be reliable, self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow all hospital policies and safety procedures
  • Prior experience in a courier, delivery or healthcare support role preferred 
  • Demonstrated ability to provide compassionate, patient-centered care across diverse populations
  • Ability to meet the physical and functional requirements outlined in the job description
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check, drug screen and reference checks
